Heather Covered Highlands
Unframed archival pigment print
"Clouds and sunlight were sweeping up the glen at Mar Lodge Estate in the Cairngorms of Scotland on this dramatic morning. I was here on a quest to photograph heather, the signature plant of the Scottish moors. For this National Geographic story I knew a bold picture of heather in bloom was an absolute necessity. My search took over a week, throughout the Highlands and even out to Lewis and Harris, but finally we returned to Mar Lodge Estate near Braemar where, with great good fortune, the next morning's sunrise was spectacular. The purple carpeting the hills was great but the light on this morning added the drama needed to convey the character of the Cairngorm Mountains."
"We published it in our National Geographic story and it was a popular choice at the National Geographic Fine Art Galleries. A limited number of prints remain available from that limited edition."
