Bedding Down, Stones of Stenness
Orkney, Scotland
Unframed archival pigment print
The Standing Stones of Stenness might just be the oldest stone circle in the Scotland – and the UK, 700 years older than Stonehenge. This image was taken for my first Scotland assignment for National Geographic and subsequently appeared as a centerpiece image of our Orkney story. The ewe bedding down with her lambs next to one of the stones suggested to me the deep history and ongoing life of these islands in the North Sea. It will always reflect a special moment in my photographic life.
