Heather Covered Hills
Unframed archival pigment print
Clouds and sunlight were sweeping up the glen at Mar Lodge Estate in the Cairngorms of Scotland on this dramatic morning. I was here on a quest to photograph heather, the signature plant of the Highland moors. Photographing the Scottish moors for National Geographic I knew a bold picture of heather in bloom was an absolute must have. The purple carpet was great here but the light on this morning added the drama needed to convey the character of the Cairngorm Mountains.
